Saab officially reveals 2011 9-5

Even before the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show is underway, Saab reveals the 2011 9-5 to the public’s excited eyes.

“We are giving a fresh, very modern expression to some of our classic brand design cues,” says Simon Padian, Saab’s design chief. “We have visual themes found in our recent concept cars, such as the Aero X, which are inspired by Scandinavian design and our brand’s aircraft heritage.”

The changes in the over-all look are definitely there. The 9-5 is curvy all over, with a rounded front end and a windshield that looks like it wraps around the car. The fluidity continues into the interior, where a keyless ignition can be found. The dash and center console are outfitted in sleek black.

As for the 9-5’s engine, Saab currently offers three engine types for the European 9-5: a 180-hp, 2.0-liter base engine, a turbocharged 220-hp V4 flex-fuel engine, and a turbocharged V6 300-hp engine. Transmission is a six-speed manual or automatic.

Market release for the 2011 Saab 9-5 is in early 2010. It almost seems too far off. :P
